Some Class Notes make us want to know more.Tweet
Ganesh Iyer, MS ’05, is a project manager for Cisco Systems in San Jose, Calif. In his spare time, he creates cartoons for his blog, tuuktukk.com
“Right from childhood, cartooning has always been my hobby. It wasn’t till I started working as a failure analysis engineer at Winslow Automation, when my boss wanted cartoons on some technical topics for the company newsletter, that I took it up more seriously. The cartoon ‘Tin Whiskers’ appeared in the newsletter.” Iyer started his first cartoon blog, “techKlite,” in 2009. It focused only on technical issues. In 2011, he expanded his topics, and “tuuKtukk” was born.
Iyer explains the name: “tuuKtukk is a variation on the word tuk-tuk, which is a three-wheeled, motorized vehicle used as a rickshaw in my hometown of Mumbai. Tuk-tuk was an integral part of my life. With jazzy colors and lively music, every commute was a memorable, fun ride. The happiness of the chaos sticks in my mind, and my cartoon blogs are an effort to bring out the lighter side of any serious situation.” “Some of my initial analogy cartoons were ideas I got while doing my master’s at Binghamton — like ‘Networking engineer’ or one called ‘Electromigration,’ which is my thesis topic.
Which is more difficult, the ideas or the drawings? “Definitely an idea that clicks is the toughest part,” Iyer says. “The rest is easy.”
