Michael Stanton ’02 and Lauren (Tullo) Stanton ’03 welcomed a daughter, Avery Bingham, on July 14, 2012. Her middle name is a tribute to where her parents met in 2002, and everyone seems to love it! When Mike and Lauren met at an information session for Phi Alpha Delta, the pre-law professional fraternity, they realized they had both been at the Weezer concert in Albany the night before. Their first date was on St. Patrick’s Day 2002 at Edigan’s in Johnson City; Mike proposed exactly four years later. Mike and Lauren married on May 26, 2007, and live in Massapequa, N.Y. Lauren earned a BS in economics and is a sales manager for GEICO Insurance. Michael earned a BA in philosophy, politics and law; a master’s in American history from James Madison University and a JD from William and Mary School of Law. He is an attorney in the litigation and appeals department of Rivkin Radler LLP.
Choosing their baby’s first name was easy: “We both loved the name Avery,” Lauren says. For a middle name, they looked for ideas among the birth announcements in their three alumni magazines. “While looking through the James Madison magazine, we noticed a few couples had used the name Madison for their children, and we thought it was cute that the name was a tribute to their alma mater. At that moment, we looked at each other and said Bingham! We never wavered on it from that point!”
There’s one thing Avery Bingham’s parents don’t agree on, and that’s which baseball team she should root for as she grows up. “Mike is a die-hard Mets fan, and I am a die-hard Yankees fan,” Lauren says. “We’ve already begun trying to influence Avery’s decision.”
