After Britain entered the war against Germany in 1939, the Carnarvon family opened Highclere Castle to children evacuated from London. On the TV show, the Crawley family turns Downton Abbey into a hospital. This newspaper clipping shows Tilly Losch and the "evacuated city moppets."
