University photographer Jonathan Cohen chronicled the lives of flood victims and volunteers at the Events Center during the first four days of the crisis. But he wasn't just an observer — he also was an evacuee, forced out of his home by rising water. This is his first-person account:

8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7:

I hear these sounds: The constant pounding of rain on my roof, voices of emergency responders on the police scanner app on my iPhone and sirens wailing in the distance. My mind is twitchy with thoughts of evacuation as I sit in the living room of my Castle Gardens townhouse in the Town of Vestal. I cannot believe I have to do this again.
