NATIONAL McNair Research ConferenceS

  • Meet and network with other McNair Scholars from other universities.
  • Present your research by doing an oral or poster presentation.

Stipends for Summer Research and Semester Funding

  • Work with a faculty mentor in your major for eight weeks of intensive research.
  • Receive a stipend to support you while you work.
  • Get assistance in paying for additional summer research expenses.
  • Receive funding to conduct senior research projects.
  • Obtain reimbursement for copying costs.
  • Present your research at local and regional conferences.

GRE Preparation Courses and Materials

  • GRE prep course offered every semester.
  • Receive your own GRE prep book.
  • Fee waiver for the GRE offered to ten students each year.
  • Computerized GRE preparation software is available on program computers around the year.
  • Cambridge Review, Kaplan, & Princeton Review prep books available in program library.

Mentoring

  • Meet regularly with a faculty member in your major.
  • Get advice from faculty in your field of interest.
  • Meet with Mcnair staff to discuss graduate school and academic plans.

Workshops Offered

  • How to apply to graduate school.
  • How to obtain graduate school funding.
  • How to write a resume and cover letter.
  • How to write a winning personal statement.
  • How to make a successful research presentation.
  • How to use popular software.
  • Any suggestions for future workshops are welcomed too!
  • Workshop speakers include faculty, staff, graduate students, and university administrators.

Graduation School Application Assistance

  • Use an application fee waiver offered by over 100 participating schools.
  • Take sponsored trips to graduate school fairs and to visit graduate school programs.
  • Have your personal statement and written materials reviewed by staff.
  • Use the office telephone to contact graduate schools of interest.
  • Access books/pamphlets in our library on researching and succeeding in graduate school.
  • Access to Graduate Fellowships.

Join Professional Associations and Attend Conferences

  • Attend professional conferences with a graduate student or faculty mentor at no cost.
  • Join a professional organization of your choice in your field.

McNair Research Facility

  • Have access to state-of-the-art computers and free color printing.
  • Browse program library containing graduate school bulletins, brochures and catalogs.
  • McNair students receive priority use on facility computers.

Supplies

  • Access photocopying, color, and laser printing on site.
  • Access resume paper, transparencies, folders, computer disks, and other materials.
  • Transparencies and poster paper available for presentations.

Social Events

  • Attend picnics, parties, and other gatherings with other McNair scholars.
  • Receive funding to attend cultural events on campus.
  • Annual McNair Induction Ceremony & Recognition Dinner.
