Abstract:

Affect Neighborhood Satisfaction and Attachment of African
Americans in Saratoga Apartments, Binghamton, NY.
With the growing population of African Americans in
the city of Binghamton, upstate New York, many began
to wonder where are they coming from. The census continually
shows that the influx of African Americans is largely
a reflection of the migration from New York City and
other large cities like it. Large concentrations of African
Americans in the city of Binghamton reside in public
housing and other forms of subsidized housing in the
city. But why have people chosen to relocate into public
housing? This research seeks to find whether public housing
residents in the city of Binghamton were previous residents
of public housing in larger cities and whether or not
their prior neighborhood and apartment conditions served
as environmental stressors in their decision to move.
This study then compares current neighborhood conditions
with the previous residence to measure the residents’ current
neighborhood satisfaction and attachment.
