Abstract:
The Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Role
in Undermining Socioeconomic Atrocities in the New South
Africa
This project focuses on the effects the
Truth and Reconciliation Commission played in marginalizing
the socioeconomic devastation apartheid inflicted on
South Africa’s
black majority. The Truth and Reconciliation Commission
that occurred between 1995-2001, through a narrow definition
of human rights violations, undermined the key aspects
that characterized apartheid-socioeconomic peripheralization.
By a careful review of research describing the socioeconomic
atrocities existing at the time of the TRC and the socioeconomic
condition of present day South Africa, this research
aims to draw a connection between the manner in which
the TRC treated the socioeconomic ills in South Africa
and how that has affected the way the post-apartheid
government addresses such issues.
