Abstract:
Abstract for University of Maryland
Nursing Research and Domestic Violence
To investigate the frameworks and themes that dominates
the discussion of domestic violence and health. Purpose
is to review the domestic violence literature published
in peer- reviewed nursing journals. The study focuses
at the prevalence of women presenting with intimate
partner violence injuries in emergency department. Further
research needed on the role of nursing in caring for
victims in primary settings, focus on special interest
populations and investigating on the implementation
of intervention programs for victims to increase screening
procedures.
Literature review findings indicate that a need for
nurses and nurse educators to examine their attitudes
and beliefs that affect the care for victims of abuse.
Findings suggest that nurse educators must develop opportunities
for students to address public health concern of violence
related content into the nursing curriculum. This research
will identify the learning experience in the curricula
of nursing programs that describes evidence related to
faculty development activities to increase awareness
and effective responsiveness to domestic violence.
