Perception of Three-Dimensional Form Using Two -Dimensional
Computer Images
Three -month -old infants were trained to kick in the
presence of 2D images, which moved in response to their
kicks. Infants in a control group were shown the same
3D images of an object during training and testing. Infants
in two other conditions were counterbalanced for orientation
and object type between training and testing. Infants
that showed generalization to the same object and discriminated
when a novel object was shown demonstrated viewpoint
invariance; according to Bierdeman’s object recognition
theory.
