McNair Summer Research with Dr. Matthew Johnson
Marraige Appraisals and Behavior Comparison Between Couples
The purpose of the current study was to investigate the relationship
between couples’ appraisals of problem-solving discussions and their
behavior during the problem-solving discussions before and after marriage.
Data from the parent study suggests that before marriage, couples’
partners do not take one another’s behavior into account, whereas after
marriage, couples have learned to take behavior into account of when
forming expectations. The current study addresses couples’ appraisals of
their interactions before marriage and whether they are taken into account
in the formation of their expectations (pre-appraisals) of their
interactions after marriage.
