Racial/Ethnic Identity and Retaining Students as Permanent
Residents in the City of Binghamton, New York.
Binghamton University students come from different parts of the world,
but once they graduate, most of these students leave the area. As a
result, the population of Binghamton University graduates in the local
area has decreased tremendously. To retain students, measures need to be
taken to make the city of Binghamton attractive enough for them
regardless of their race or ethnicity. Studies have shown that racial identity
plays an important role in shaping individuals and society as a whole.
This research addresses the question, how does an individual’s sense of
racial identity affect his/her perception of Binghamton as a place?
