Binghamton University Crew Club to host the annual John McKenna Memorial Run


BINGHAMTON, NY -- The Binghamton University Crew Club will host the fifth annual John McKenna Memorial 5K run on Saturday, Apr. 9, at Recreation Park in Binghamton. John McKenna was a Binghamton graduate and member of the crew club from 1994-1998.  He was killed in combat during his third tour with the U.S. Marines, in Iraq on August 26, 2006.  The run is held in his honor.

Proceeds will be split between the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund, and be reinvested into the Binghamton Crew team in support of its continued success.

The deadline to pre-register is Apr. 2 and only early registrants will receive a  t-shirt. The cost for Binghamton University students is $10 and the cost for Community Members is $15. Registration forms can be found online at  Groups of 10 or more can register at $10 per person. Registration after Apr. 2 for participants costs $15. Race day registration begins at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 9:30 a.m.  The schedule of events includes A Children's Fun Run run is scheduled for 9:30 a.m., a 5K at 10:00 a.m. and an awards ceremony is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. tentatively.

This event is sponsored by the Triples Cities Running Club, Student Association, Knuckle Head Embroidery, Yellow Jacket Racing, Parkway Dentist, Knead Relief, Crowley's, PipeDream, Off Campus Council and Campus Recreational Services and Club Sports.
