Race driver to discuss the road to Daytona
BINGHAMTON, NY -- American Race Car Association (ARCA) driver Brent Cross will discuss the world of racecar driving as seen through the eyes of an engineer at 4:40 p.m. Wednesday, Apr. 27, in Lecture Hall 2 on the Binghamton University campus. The presentation, titled “The Road to Daytona,” is free and open to the public. Cross’s championship car, a Chevy Impala SS, will be on display outside the lecture hall.
Cross, an engineer for the Village of Cayuga Heights, NY, is the lead driver for Team LaCross Motorsports of Preble, NY. Earlier this year, Team La Cross took the checkered flag at the ARCA Slick Mist 200 held at the Daytona International Speedway. The presentation will explore the trials and tribulations of making that long journey to Daytona and feature a Binghamton University student, Bob Dolezal, who interned with Cross.
The presentation is part of the Thomas J. Watson School of Engineering and Applied Science's annual senior capstone design reviews. A celebration of the conclusion of their academic courses, the 30-minute design presentations allow students an opportunity to share with faculty and colleagues everything they've learned about engineering planning, design, building and testing of a real-world project.
