Binghamton University prepares for Homecoming 2007
More than 1,000 alumni are expected to attend Homecoming 2007 at Binghamton University. Highlights include an open house at the new University Downtown Center, a parade, special activities for children, and several milestone reunions, including the 40th and 35th anniversaries of the Hinman and College-in-the-Woods communities.
Events begin at 4 p.m. Friday, October 5, with a reception at the new University Downtown Center. At this time alumni will be given a chance to tour the Washington Street facility, home of the new College of Community and Public Affairs. During the event a time capsule of University artifacts will be placed in the cornerstone of the building. The open house is scheduled to coincide with the City of Binghamton’s First Friday event, giving alumni a chance to enjoy a growing arts community, including many alumni-owned galleries.
At 5 p.m. Friday, the School of Management will break ground on a new patio on the University campus. The new outdoor area for students is a gift from the SOM classes of 2005, 2006 and 2007.
At 3 p.m. Saturday, the traditional Brain Train Parade will make its way around the campus’ main roadway — the “Brain” — leading into the Peace Quad. Featuring floats representing campus community groups, alumni classes and residential communities, the Brain Train will also include the finalists for the Exemplary Student Award.
At 5:30 p.m., Homecoming’s main event, the all alumni jazz reception will kick-off at the Events Center. After the reception, attendees can head over to see the Bearcat men’s soccer team play in the new-lighted stadium.
At 7 p.m., Hinman College alumni will celebrate the living community’s 40th anniversary with a banquet. Graduates will commemorate the 35th anniversary of College-in-the-Woods with a reception and special casino night for alumni at 8 p.m.
The weekend will come to an end at 7 p.m. Sunday, October 7, with a performance by the up and coming band Gym Class Heroes, followed by a fireworks display hosted the Student Association.
