University Fest, Free Books Return to Binghamton University

2007-08-16

The return of students to campus kicks off this year with the 14th annual University Fest from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, August 25. The event welcomes visitors and the campus community to the Binghamton University Peace Quad to celebrate the beginning of the new academic year.

The festival will include carnival rides, vendor booths, a children’s play area, poster sales, food, student organization tables and live music from local bands. Also, for the first time in two years, University Fest will include a free book giveaway as part of the festivities.

Musical performances begin at 11 a.m. with the Morgan String Band. Known for their dynamic bluegrass sound, the Band will perform traditional, contemporary, and original bluegrass tunes and some classic favorites with their own grassy flavor added.
At noon, The Swims, an energetic, throwback power pop band will take the stage and at 1 p.m., the Seepeoples will perform.  Earning glowing accolades from critics, the Seepeoples have been dubbed one of the most dynamic and unique up and coming rock acts to appear on the scene in years.

Musical entertainment wraps up with a performance from the Korean Percussion team, Sul Poong, at 3:50 p.m.  Also this year, WHRW will broadcast live throughout the festivities.

University Fest is sponsored by the Binghamton University President’s Office, the Office of Campus Life and Sodexho Campus Services.
