Binghamton University celebrates Earth Day 2012

2012-04-17

BINGHAMTON, NY -- Students, faculty and staff at Binghamton University will celebrate Earth Day 2012 with a zero waste festival from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. Friday, Apr. 20, at the Dickinson Amphitheater. Activities, which include food, music and environmental activities, are free and open to the public.

During the celebration, attendees will have a chance to take part in hands-on activities at student group tables and demonstrations.

Organizers will set up a “Clothing Swap” table, where attendees can bring and take away gently used clothing. Throughout the day, a host of activities will be offered including tie-dying and seed planting activities, a free raffle, a small-scale alpaca farm, and exhibits from the Binghamton Zoo.

The Binghamton University celebrations will take place earlier than the ‘official’ Earth Day festivities to ensure the participation of students, staff and faculty.

Events are sponsored by the Office of Recycling and Resource Management and Sodexo Campus Services.  All electricity needs will be met by musician, Crow Weaver, and his solar-powered stage.  For more information, contact Martin Larocca at (607) 777-3411 or mlarocca@binghamton.edu.
