Binghamton University tops goal, raises $101.22 million in Bold.Brilliant.Binghamton fundraising campaign
BINGHAMTON, NY -- Binghamton University announced it has successfully concluded its comprehensive gifts campaign, raising $101,219,372 to support academic excellence, faculty research and the greatest needs at Binghamton for years to come.
Bold.Brilliant.Binghamton — The Campaign for Binghamton University exceeded ambitious expectations by surpassing its initial $95 million goal and its new goal of $100 million.
“One of the keys to Binghamton University’s future will be sustained growth of enrollment and research activities,” President Harvey Stenger said. “This money is an investment in that future as we move toward being the premier public university of the 21st century.”
About 45 percent of the money raised is designated for faculty and academic excellence. Another 45 percent will support student excellence. The remaining amount will go to The Binghamton Fund, an annual fund that immediately directs gifts to areas of greatest need.
Gifts to Bold.Brilliant.Binghamton include a nearly $43.61 million commitment from a single donor, noted Marcia Craner, vice president for external affairs and executive director of the Binghamton University Foundation.
“Every gift, from large to small, helped us achieve our goal,” Craner said. “This support not only helps Binghamton University, but also the surrounding community. By leveraging our academic excellence, outstanding students and world-class faculty and researchers, we are positioned to be a major catalyst for economic revitalization of the Southern Tier and rest of New York.”
Bold.Brilliant.Binghamton is only the second fundraising campaign ever launched by the University, raising more than twice the amount raised in the first campaign — Believe in Binghamton.
“Bold.Brilliant.Binghamton was a tremendous success because of generous contributions from more than 30,000 donors,” said Paul Turovsky, the campaign's chair. “We launched the campaign during a full-blown recession, but pressed ahead confident our supporters would feel as passionate as we do about helping the University thrive.”
An opportunity to thank contributors and celebrate the successful end to the campaign will be held Oct. 12, during Homecoming Weekend.
