Binghamton University to present Municipal Dissolution discussion panel

2012-11-06

BINGHAMTON, NY – The Center for Applied Community Research and Development (CACRD) at Binghamton University will present a panel discussion, “Municipal Dissolution: Cure or Placebo?” at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14 at the Tioga County Office Building located at 56 Main Street in Owego. This discussion is free and open to the public.

Panelists will present information about alternative options to municipal dissolution, including the implementation of shared services or municipal consolidation.  Panelists will also discuss the pros and cons of dissolution and whether the process actually reduces the cost of operating local government.

Panelists include Binghamton University Public Administration Professor Tom Sinclair, Michael Hattery from the Program on Local and Intergovernmental Studies (POLIS) at Albany, as well as Connie Sowards and Diana Smith, administrators who presided over the dissolution process in Seneca Falls.

CACRD is an organized research center at Binghamton that facilitates community-based research between the University and surrounding communities.

For more information, contact CACRD at pmischen@binghamton.edu or by phone at 607-777-9178.
