2014-01-29

BINGHAMTON, NY – More than 12 students from Stamford Central School District, Stamford, N.Y. will meet at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, in the Watters Theater of the Fine Arts Building at Binghamton University for the Southern Tier Region’s ‘Poetry Out Loud’ competition. This is the first time that Binghamton University is hosting this event.

Free and open to the public, ‘Poetry Out Loud’ is a national recitation contest for high school students created by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation.

An important part of the State University of New York’s (SUNY’s) system-wide Vibrant Communities and K-12 initiatives, this program is administered in partnership with the state arts agencies of all 50 states. In New York, ‘Poetry Out Loud’ is managed by the Teachers and Writers Collaborative on behalf of the New York State Council on the Arts.

This event is sponsored by the Office of the Provost.

The ‘Poetry Out Loud’ state finals will be held Tuesday, March 4, in the SUNY System Administration Building in Albany.
