Binghamton University to host major statewide research symposium
Scholars and scientists from throughout the state will head to Binghamton University in March for a major research symposium. The two day event, Destination Discovery '05--Across the Disciplines: Research Policies, Practice and Promise, is scheduled for March 23 and 24.
The symposium is aimed at facilitating faculty research opportunities and at spurring broad-based, statewide increases in sponsored research and scholarship, synergistic collaborations between institutions, and industry-university partnerships. U.S. Senator Charles Schumer is scheduled to deliver the keynote address.
Expected to attract about 400 participants, the symposium will include updates on funding trends from many of the nation's premiere research funding agencies and informative sessions presented by noted experts who will discuss research policies, practices and opportunities. Participants will also have the opportunity to explore ways to enhance the success of their individual and collaborative research projects.
Entrepreneurs and innovators are invited to register and to apply to participate in the Synervations Expo, which will be held in conjunction with the symposium to showcase new technologies, prototypes, ideas or practices across the disciplines. A sophisticated, high-energy “show-and-tell” event, the Expo will highlight interactive and thought-provoking multimedia displays, working prototypes, and demonstrations or presentations of new technologies, innovative applications and processes, or new materials.
The symposium is co-sponsored by the Research Foundation of the State University of New York and the State University of New York Provost's Office. The Synervations Expo is co-sponsored by the New York State Office of Science, Technology and Advanced Research.
