Binghamton University, Broome Community College to host financial aid workshop
Binghamton University and Broome Community College will host a workshop on financial aid at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 5, in lecture hall 10 on the Binghamton University campus. The workshop is free and open to the public.
The workshop is being held in support of SUNY Statewide Financial Aid Day. Binghamton University and Broome Community College will join over 32 campuses in participating in the event.
“This is an important opportunity for prospective students and their families to learn about their college financing options. Often families assume that they may not be eligible for financial aid, when there are programs that can help them,” said Patricia Shaw, associate director of Student Aid and Employment at Binghamton University. “Financial aid is about providing access to higher education. It can mean the difference between going or not going to college.”
Financial aid experts from BU and BCC will be on hand to answer questions and provide assistance with applications, types of aid available and the award process. Representatives from the Educational Talent Search, a federally funded educational opportunities program, will provide tips on completing the 2005 –2006 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), a form required for all financial aid. They will also present information about the New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP). Families planning to attend should bring their 2004 or 2003 tax returns, bank statements and 2004 untaxed income statements.
