Binghamton University recognizes excellence

Binghamton University recently presented 24 awards for excellence in teaching, research, professional, community and classified service.

The Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching was presented to: Jeffrey Barker, associate professor of geological sciences; Howard Brown, professor of history; Subimal Chatterjee; associate professor of management; Donna Mendelson; lecturer of English as a second language; Dora Polachek, visiting professor of romance languages; and Steven Scalet, assistant professor and director of philosophy.

The Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Scholarship and Creative Activities was presented to: Albrecht Inhoff, professor and chairman of psychology; David Jenkins, professor of geological sciences and Victor Skormin, professor of electrical and computer engineering.

The Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Faculty Service was presented: to Mary Britten, associate professor of nursing: C. Robert Emerson, professor of systems science and industrial engineering, and Sandra Michael, professor and graduate studies director of biological sciences.

The Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Professional Service was presented to: Michael McGoff, vice provost of academic affairs; and Brian Perry, undergraduate coordinator for the school of management.

The University Award for Excellence in International Education was presented to John Chaffee, professor of history.

The University Award for Excellence in Classified Service was presented to Priscilla Brunner, secretary to the dean of the school of education and human development; and Charles Paffie, plant utilities engineer in the Physical Facilities Department.

The Binghamton University Council/Foundation Awards were presented to Michael Leonard, medical director of the university health service; Melanie Yaworski, keyboard specialist in the department of philosophy.

The Edward Weisband Distinguished Alumni Award for Public Service or Contributions to Public Affairs was presented posthumously to Jeffrey Allan Ross. 

The Glenn G. Bartle Distinguished Alumnus Award was presented to Thomas Brown, MD.

The Alumni Association Special Recognition Award was presented to Allen Zwickler.

The Alumni Association program Development Award was presented to David Berkowitz.

The Distinguished Service Award was presented to David Gouldin Esq.
