Crosby’s celebrate 20th anniversary

The Binghamton Crosbys, Binghamton University’s only all-male a cappella vocal ensemble, will celebrate their 20th anniversary with a gala concert at 7:00 p.m. Saturday, April 5, in the Anderson Center Concert Theater. The retrospective concert will feature performances by current members of the group as well as alumni.

The concert will also be a warm-up for the Crosbys’ performance at the finals of the International Championship of College A Cappella (ICCA) on April 26 at the Beacon Theater on Broadway in New York City. The Crosbys will compete against the winners of five other brackets for top honors. They advanced to the finals by beating out groups from University of Maryland, Cornell University, Lafayette College, Villanova University, SUNY Buffalo, New York University and Syracuse University. Only 108 groups were chosen to compete in this year’s ICCA competition from more than 250 applicants. The Crosbys are now recognized as one of the top six groups in the competition.

The ICCA has been in existence since 1996. Since that time, the Crosbys have advanced out of the regional stage by finishing in the top two competing groups in every year they have competed (the competition wasn’t held in 1999 and the Crosbys took a year off from competing in 2002 to record their seventh album). The Crosbys are also the first group in the history of the competition to reach the finals three times, having competed at Carnegie Hall in 1998 and Lincoln Center in 2001, making them one of the most consistent and well-recognized collegiate performance groups in the country.

Tickets for the concert are $6 and can be purchased by contacting the Anderson Center for the Arts at 607-777-ARTS or on-line at
