International student festival to feature everything from culture to sport
A kaleidoscope of music, food and sporting events celebrating the culture of Binghamton University’s international student population will be highlighted during a mini-festival taking place September 20 - 22. Activities associated with the festival are free and open to the public.
A food tasting and cultural multimedia showcase highlighting the cultures of Japan, China, India, Taiwan, the African continent, and Korea will launch the three-day celebration at 7:30 p.m. Friday, September 20, in the Mandela Room of the University Union. The festivities will continue with a dance, scheduled to begin at 11 p.m.
Festival highlights on Saturday, September 21, include soccer games between teams from Africa, Korea, India and Turkey. The games will kickoff at 9 a.m. on the fields located below the East Gym track. A series of basketball and volleyball games will get underway at 2 p.m. in the West Gym, with table tennis matches taking place in the University Union starting at 7 p.m.
Activities on Sunday, September 22, include sporting event finals, featuring soccer at 9:30 a.m. on the East Gym fields; volleyball at 2 p.m. and basketball at 3 p.m. in the West Gym.
The cultural festival is coordinated through the Office of International Student and Scholar Services and sponsored by 21 campus and community organizations.
