Binghamton University hosts New York State Junior Classical League convention

Latin and Greek middle and high school students and teachers from across New York State will converge on the Binghamton University campus for two days of fellowship, competition and fun. The New York State Junior Classical League convention begins at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, June 26, in the Lecture Hall complex with a general assembly and an arts and crafts exhibit. The convention will close with an Olympic Procession and outdoor Roman banquet (complete with togas) and an award ceremony scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, June 27, in Lecture Hall 1.

During the two-day event, students and teachers will participate in contests focusing on academic, athletic, artistic and creative arts. Award ribbons, trophies and certificates will be presented at the convention's final assembly on Thursday afternoon. Approximately 200 students and teachers are expected to participate in the convention.

Wednesday, June 26

7:30 – 8:45 a.m. Registration, Lecture Hall complex

8:45 - 9:45 a.m. Opening Assembly – welcoming remarks from Andrew Scholtz, assistant professor of classics and near eastern studies

10:15 – 11:15 a.m. Academic test session

10 – 11 a.m. Basketball shootout

1:30 – 4:30 p.m. Volleyball tournament

4:45 – 5:45 p.m. Academic contests session

6:30 – 8:30 p.m. General assembly

9:00 - 10:30 p.m. Talent show

9:00 - 10:30 p.m. Latin oratory, dramatic reading and sight Latin reading

9:15 a.m. Line up for procession
