BINGHAMTON, NY -- Binghamton University students, faculty and staff aim to bring joy to the lives of needy families though various holiday drives scheduled for the coming weeks.

Binghamton University President Lois B. DeFleur and Binghamton Mayor Matthew Ryan will be on hand for the 19th annual Student Association holiday drive to be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 10, in the Susquehanna Room of the University Union.  Hundreds of gifts ranging from toys to clothing to food certificates will be collected and distributed to over 100 individuals in the Binghamton School District. Tables will be set up to sort the gifts, which will then be transported to the schools and distributed to the families.

As part of the annual Hard to Heart Holiday Project, thousands of donated items will be sorted into more than 1,200 gift bags starting at 9 a.m. Monday, December 15, in the basement lounge of O’Connor Hall located in the Dickinson community. Once the bags are sorted they will be delivered to the Salvation Army and the Children’s Home for distribution. Each year Residential Life and the National Resident Hall Honorary team up with the Salvation Army and the Children’s Home to make the holiday season a little brighter for needy Binghamton-area children.

At the University Downtown Center the Masters in Social Work (MSW) Student Organization has joined with the Broome County Youth Bureau to sponsor an Angel Tree Holiday gift drive.  A Christmas tree adorned with tags containing gift ideas has been placed in the reception area of the Department of Social Work located in room 312.  Individuals are invited to take a tag and donate a gift. The deadline to drop off the gifts is 3 p.m. Friday, December 12.

Physical Facilities and Parking Services are also supporting Toys for Tots and the entire campus is supporting Chow through donations of food.  Collection barrels will be placed throughout campus during the weeks of December 8 and 15.
