Binghamton University to host fourth annual Invitational Iron Pour
BINGHAMTON, NY -- Binghamton University will host the fourth annual Invitational Iron Pour, starting at 10 a.m. Friday, April 24, in the sculpture studios located in room 154 of the Fine Arts Building on the University campus. This event is free and open to the public.
Sculpture students and faculty from eight other college programs, including Ramapo State University of New Jersey, Syracuse University and the Salem Art Works, will attend to pour over 100 molds, with three furnaces firing. Independent professional sculptors, such as Chris Dashke, Michael Dominick and Alair Wells, who are well-known for their work with iron, will also participate.
The process involves pouring red-hot iron, raised to temperatures of more than 2,700 degrees, into special molds to create sculptures.
This event is supported by the Rosefsky Memorial Visiting Artist Endowment, the Harpur College Dean’s Office, the University Provost’s Office, Sodexo Campus Services, Ben Weitsman and Sons, Tonawanda Coke Company, Harbison-Walker Refractories Company, and the Dim Spark SFB fund.
