Binghamton University Speech and Debate Team to host United States Immigration Policy debate
BINGHAMTON, NY – Binghamton University will host The You Defend It Debate Series, a series of debates featuring high-profile public figures discussing topics that are of national and state importance, at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, March 19, at the Anderson Center Chamber Hall, on campus.
The topic is "United States Immigration Policy." The debaters include Ira Mehlman, media director of the Federation for American Immigration Reform, which seeks to reduce immigration levels; and Craig Nichols, a partner at Nichols Law Offices, PLLC, who specializes in litigation on behalf of immigrants.
The debates will focus on the consequences that the public will actually experience depending on how the issue is resolved by congressional legislation or executive action. Accordingly, debaters will be required to defend their own positions, rather than attack their opponent’s.
The You Defend It Debate Series is co-sponsored by the Binghamton University Speech and Debate Team and Defend It, Inc.
