Welcome to the National Student Exchange Program at Binghamton University!
The National Student Exchange (NSE) provides opportunities for undergraduate students to study for up to one calendar year at another NSE member college or university. With 190 colleges and universities participating throughout the U.S., Canada, the U.S Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Guam and the District of Columbia, there are choices available for everyone. For over 35 years NSE has been providing educational opportunities and service to over 70,000 students.
This is a chance to take courses not offered at your home university or college, enjoy a different geographic area, experience a different cultural/social environment, and explore graduate and professional schools on or near your NSE campus.
Most placements are made at the annual conference in early March so students are encouraged to apply early. For further information about NSE, please contact Birgit Nicolaisen or your local coordinator directly and visit the website http://www.nse.org/ for a complete listing of all participating universities and colleges.
The NSE program at Binghamton is part of the larger Discovery Program. The Discovery Initiative seeks to help students academically and to prepare them for a transition into graduate school or the working world after campus life. Discovery is a collaborative effort among faculty and student affairs staff to put that help into practice by connecting with students through tutoring support, counseling, advising, and residential activities. The Discovery Program provides students with easier access to all the components of college life. As a connecting guide, the Discovery Program directs students to the support they need to have an enriching educational experience so that each student can move confidently beyond college life towards her/his own dreams and goals.
Various components of the Discovery Program include free peer tutoring, the National Student Exchange, Learning Communities, Discovery courses, Area-Based Courses, and use of the Discovery Assistants and Discovery Centers in CIW, Dickinson, Hinman, Mountainview and Newing. For more information on Discovery, please visit their website http://discovery.binghamton.edu/.
