Harpur’s Ferry receives national recognition
national recognition Harpur’s Ferry was honored as the EMS Organization of the Year at the recent National Collegiate Emergency Medical Services Foundation conference in Boston, Mass.

The honor is given to one agency nationwide each year for excellence in collegiate emergency medical services.

And for the second year in a row, Harpur’s Ferry took top honors in the foundation’s advanced life support skills team competition. Joshua Parsons, Evan Gluck, Michael Schlazer and Benjamin Krakauer were on the team this year.

Harpur’s Ferry was earlier named Emergency Medical Services Agency of the Year by the New York State EMS Council.

Harpur’s Ferry maintains a roster of 130 to 150 active members. Although most of the volunteers are students, the squad includes faculty and staff members as well as alumni.

Summer programs available for children
Continuing Education and Outreach will offer summer programs for children.

The Summer Dance Institute will run from July 10-21 with a fee of $525, Archaeology for Kids will be held from July 17- 27 with a fee of $129 and the Summer Youth Musical Theater Workshop, which will present Wonderful Town, will run from July 24-Aug. 13. The fee for that program is $395.

Family Weekend organizers Family Weekend organizers
Family Weekend 2006 will take place Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 21 and 22.

Organizers are looking for individuals, departments and groups that would like to volunteer to host activities, plan interactive events and manage informational tables or exhibits during the weekend.

Amazon exhibit opens March 7
A multimedia adventure titled “Perspectives: Expedition Amazon” will transport visitors deep into the rainforest. Featuring artwork, photographs, film and performance, the exhibition will have its premiere in the FA-Art Museum.

A free opening reception will begin at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 7.

The exhibition reflects the journey of a group of Binghamton alumni and colleagues to a remote community in Peru. Their efforts to build a health clinic are reflected in more than 90 paintings and photographs.

The show will be on display through March 11. The museum is open from 1-4 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday and from 1-7 p.m. Thursday. It’s closed Monday and holidays. Admission is free.

Donate cell phones to help SOS Shelter
The Women’s Rugby Club, in conjunction with Campus Recreational Services, is collecting old cell phones until the end of the semester.

Old cell phones, along with their chargers, will be collected by the club and will be donated to the SOS Shelter in Endicott. The club will also donate a percentage of its annual Scrumstock home tournament entry fee to the shelter.

O.A.R. to perform on campus March 26
O.A.R. (Of a Revolution) will perform March 26 at the Events Center.

Tickets cost $18 for undergraduates and $28 for the public. They are available at the Events Center box office or online at

Graduate School has funding available for TAs/GAs
Do you intend to employ a graduate student on the state TA/GA payroll in 2006-’07? Do you intend to pay the stipend from your department’s state/ IFR funds (not funds allocated by the Graduate School)?

If so, you are employing a “Unit-Funded TA/GA.” The Graduate School has tuition scholarships for certain Unit- Funded TA/GAs for 2006-’07.
