President schedules open hours

President Lois B. DeFleur will hold Open Hours from 3-5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, and Wednesday, April 23, at her office in the Couper Administration Building.

Homecoming planning under way for fall

The Office of Alumni and Parent Relations is planning Homecoming/Alumni Reunion Weekend, which will take place Oct. 17-19.

This year’s event will include reunions for the classes of 1958, 1978, 1983, 1988 and 1998. Homecoming will also have special reunions for late ‘60s graduates (1966-70) and young alumni (2003-08) as well as philosophy and economics graduates.

PEC begins election process

The Professional Employees Council (PEC) announces the beginning of its nomination and election process for 2008.

Nominations will be accepted electronically during the month of March, with the elections to be held electronically in April. This year’s process will include nomination and election of Binghamton’s professional faculty senator (three-year term) to the statewide Faculty Senate as well as council members (two-year term). Look for future announcements detailing deadlines.

USA Today highlights senior’s achievements

Sebastian Rodriguez, a senior from New City, received an honorable mention from USA Today’s ninth-annual All-USA College Academic Team program.

Rodriguez, an English and global culture major, plans to pursue a law degree.

He received the Exemplary Student Award at Homecoming last fall and is also a member of Phi Eta Sigma honor society, president of the Binghamton Feral Cat Society and a Stable Movements volunteer. He is co-founder of the University’s Amnesty International chapter.

Rodriguez, captain of the Policy Debate Team, received a 2007 1st team All-American Policy Debater Award. He was also a finalist for the Planned Parenthood Association’s National Volunteer of the Year Award and is a Binghamton Ronald Glazer Scholarship Award winner.
