Binghamton University Forum to address art looted during Holocaust

Binghamton University alumnus and litigator Owen Pell ’80 will discuss “The Fate of Art Looted During the Holocaust” on Friday, Nov. 20, at the Binghamton University Forum, held at the Binghamton Club at 81 Front St. in Binghamton.

Among Pell’s achievements are the formulation of a proposal to create a clearinghouse and dispute resolution entity to address claims related to art looted during the Holocaust. It was adopted by the European Parliament in 2004.

Pell has published widely on the subject of Holocaust-looted art and was invited to present a public lecture to the New York State Court of Appeals relating to Holocaust-looted art claims. In June 2009, he was part of the U.S. Delegation to the Holocaust Era Assets Conference held in Prague. The conference concluded with the adoption of the Terezin Declaration, which includes several actions Pell has long advocated.

The Forum breakfast begins at 7:30 a.m.; Pell’s discussion starts at 8 a.m.

There is a $20 fee for each guest, payable at the door. Members are also encouraged to bring a prospective member as a guest of the Forum on a “one-time” basis.
