Resource 25 to make event planning easier

By : Sarah Lifshin

Booking a room has never been so easy.

A new Web-based scheduling tool called Resource 25 should make the process of scheduling space for classes, conferences or other gatherings as easy as a mouse click.

University officials this fall began scheduling classes in the first phase of implementation for a system, which among many features will track room bookings across campus.

“This is a University-wide event management system,” said Jeff Donahue, director of the Educational Communications Center and the Resource 25 program manager. “It brings everyone together.”

Planning for the system began a year ago. The first of two phases of the project came online in August with the creation of a room scheduling system.

“The system the registrar was using was outdated,” Donahue said. “We needed to find a newer and more effective way.”

The program replaces a patched-together network of independent systems that required users to call all over campus to reserve space and plan events.

“We would have to keep calling people to find out if space was available because there was no central scheduling system,” Donahue said. “We needed to update it with a unified scheduling system.”

Donahue said the first phase has been successful. The Registrar, Public Service Programs Center, University Union, Anderson Center and Computing Center have already begun using Resource 25.

Athletics and Campus Recreational Services are expected to begin implementation during the next few weeks.

The implementation of a Resource 25 calendar, which would be the second phase of the project, will enable schedulers to post events to the Web as they simultaneously reserve venues. The new calendar will replace the current on-line campus events calendar.

Training will be offered to campus members who input items in the system.
