Galumpha waltzes back into Anderson center

Performance dance troupe Galumpha will waltz back to BU this week with a production, which will for the first time features three dances with women from the local community and the University.

Co-produced by Galumpha and the Department of Theatre, the performances will be held at 8 p.m. Friday, October 24, and Saturday, October 25, with a matinee at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 26, in the Anderson Center Chamber Hall.

Creating a sensory feast of images from the ridiculous to the sublime and weaving it into a mix of art and entertainment equally accessible to children and adults, Galumpha will showcase many new creations including "Crazy Waltz," set to the music of the virtuoso Czech band Jablkon. The performance will feature eight different local female dancers from the University and the local community as part of the program. Undergraduate Katie McGuire and local ballerina Emily Hooper will dance a "pas de quartre" with Marlon Torres and Greg O'Brien, and six additional dancers will perform a world premiere choreographed by Torres.

The group was created in 2001 when Torres was an undergraduate and Horowitz and O'Brien were finishing The Second Hand Dance Company.
