Tennis star helps BU freshman win new car

By : Rabia Muhammad

A freshman's dream of attending the U.S. Open became a reality last month after he won tickets from a New York City-based radio show.

Adrian Chaves, a political science/philosophy/law major, entered Sports Radio 66 WFAN's promotional tennis contest, which randomly matched the names of its contestants with U.S. Open contenders.

Chaves, a native of Queens, was matched with professional tennis player Andy Roddick, who proceeded to the competition's finals in Miami.

Since Roddick won the competition, Chaves won the radio station's first place prize - a Ford Lincoln Aviator. Chaves said his chances of winning were about one in 5,000. Entries were received from worldwide. Of the 5,000 entries, only 128 people were selected to participate in the contest, and out of those names, Chaves was attached to the winner.

Chaves, an avid tennis player, said Roddick has been his favorite player for a few years. Though he didn't meet Roddick, Chaves is happy that the player's win earned him a new car, which he plans to claim next month.

"I feel this is something that only happens on TV," said Chaves. "Everyone is really happy for me."
