Mardi Gras theme selected for Homecoming 2004
Hues of purple, green and gold will decorate the Binghamton University campus this fall as part of a Mardi Gras theme for Homecoming 2004, set for October 7-10. The theme will recreate the festivities of the annual New Orleans tradition with a whirl of parades, parties, music and food.
The popular “Brain Train” parade will meander around campus Saturday morning while Baxter’s Bayou Barbecue will feature a host of cajun delights. Other activities will include recognition of the class of 1954, which will celebrate its golden anniversary; the announcement of the winner of the Exemplary Student of the Year award; the Black Student Union fashion show; the 5th annual Alumni Association Golf Tournament and a student variety show.
Musical entertainment will feature jazz artists at various locations and events throughout the weekend. Anniversary celebrations will also be held for the classes of 1979, 1994 and 1999, where they will be recognized when the Alumni Association, in cooperation with the University Libraries and the Harpur College Dean’s Office, hosts the first “Thanks for the Memories Roadshow.”
The roadshow will incorporate memories from the anniversary classes in a large traveling display. Items are being collected and include photographs, print publications, sound recordings, committee records and any type of records that relate to student activities at BU or Harpur College.
Anyone who has items to donate should include a note for each item describing the event or activity, including the year and their full name and class year. For photographs, identify the individuals.
