Degrees awarded to more than 3,250 students

In ceremonies to be held for the first time on campus in 20 years, Binghamton University will confer an estimated 3,291 degrees for bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral candidates during the 2004 Commencement ceremonies Saturday, May 15, and Sunday, May 16, in the Events Center. The ceremonies mark the University’s 58th Commencement.

The ceremony for the Graduate School will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday. On Sunday, the ceremony for Harpur College of Arts and Sciences graduates will begin at 9 a.m., with the ceremony for the professional schools scheduled at 1:30 p.m.

The University will award three honorary doctorates with the recipients making remarks at their respective ceremonies.

Engineering educator Eugene M. DeLoatch will receive the honorary Doctor of Science degree during the Graduate School ceremony. Melissa Killeleagh, a master of public administration (MPA) candidate, will give the student address.

Composer and teacher Ezra Laderman will receive the honorary Doctor of Music degree during the Harpur College of Arts and Sciences ceremony on Sunday. Sean Lebowitz, a political science major, will offer the student address.

Remarks at the professional schools’ ceremony will be given by philanthropist and vice president of corporate communications at the Federal National Mortgage Association (Fannie Mae) Charlene Kahlor Kramer ’73, who will receive the honorary Doctor of Humane Letters. The student speaker will be Justin Hoch, a psychology and management double major.
