SEFA campaign hopes to “make a mark” on community

The State Employees Federated Appeal (SEFA) hopes to build on last year’s success with the same theme this year - “Make Your Mark … and Make a Lasting Impression in Your Community.”

Last year, University employees donated over $62,300 to the campaign, which supports a broad array of human service agencies.

The 2004 campaign kicks off on campus the week of October 4, with a goal of $60,000.

Faculty and staff will receive information packets that week, explaining the various ways to donate.

SEFA supports agencies that provide services ranging from medical and social programs to physical rehabilitation and foreign relief.

Individuals who donate a minimum of $50, or $2 a paycheck, by November 30 will have their names entered into a drawing.

Prizes include a weekend getaway at the Sherwood Inn in Skaneateles, a 50-game reserved grandstand-seating package for the Binghamton Mets and one 10-pack of Binghamton University basketball tickets.

The Office of the President will also again give away 10 gift certificates to area restaurants to campus employees. The drawing will be held the week of December 1.

SEFA contributions may be made by check or through payroll deduction. For more information, contact Bobbi Hardman at 777-2131 or Send donations to Ann Glossl, AD-229.

Research Foundation employees – about 275 of them — participate in the United Way campaign and have already received their information packets about how to contribute.

This year’s United Way theme is “Real Lives, Real Results, What Matters.” Last year, Research Foundation employees increased their level of giving by more than 75 percent. This year’s goal is to increase the number of participants.

United Way also holds drawings. Research Foundation employees must donate a minimum of $150 to be eligible for a drawing for a Nissan Sentra; $100 to be eligible for a drawing for a home theater system from Olum’s; and $50 to be eligible for a drawing for $1,000 in groceries from Wegman’s.

The United Way donation deadline is Friday, November 5. Contributions may be sent to Paul Parker, Sponsored Funds Administration.
