Homecoming 2005 preparations under way

With Homecoming ’05 less than two months away, organizers have built a jam-packed program of events and oppor-tunities for students and alumni. The “’80s” themed weekend, set for October 21-23, will feature alumni get-togethers for Pipe Dream staffers, Residential Life staff, theatre, High Hopes and Student Association leaders, in addition to the milestone classes celebrating this year. The popular exemplary student award contest returns, along with some brand-new events and the ever-popular fireworks. During the week, the campus will again hold a blood drive and office-decorating contest. Two new events include a Double Dare contest sponsored by Hillel and Bearcat paw painting around campus by various student groups. For more information on any of these student activities, contact Jack Causseaux at 777-2811. The “Brain Train” Homecoming Parade will take place at 3 p.m. Saturday, October 22, and will march its way around the “brain,” leading to the Peace Quad for Baxter’s Barbecue. All campus departments and organizations are invited to create a float or march in the parade.

Entertainment highlights include a performance by stand-up comedian Lewis Black on Sunday, October 23, in the West Gym. Black, whose weekly segment on Comedy Central’s The Daily Show is an assault on all things stupid, has made appearances on the Late Show with Conan O’Brien, Murphy Brown and Mad About You.

Other performances include the Department of Theatre’s The Comedy of Asses and A Grand Night for Singing! A Rodgers and Hammerstein Gala, in the Anderson Center’s Osterhout Concert Theater.

Additional activities include an alumni art exhibit, the 10th annual Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, the Educational Opportunity Program dinner, the Greek God contest, the Black Student Union Fashion Show and Late Night Madness in the Events Center. It’s not too late to plan an open house or some activity for students and alumni. Contact Rose Frierman at 777-2431.
