Relay for Life kick-off tonight

This year, Binghamton University will serve as a host for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.

The event celebrates cancer survivors and raises money for research and programs. The University’s Relay will take place from 7 p.m. –7 a.m. Apr. 1-2, at the Events Center.

Organizers will start to build excitement and momentum with a kick-off event at 7 p.m. tonight (Feb. 10) in the Susque-hanna Room. The event will include free food and giveaways.

While this is Binghamton University’s first time to host a Relay for Life, nationally it has been a very popular way for college students to support cancer research. In 2004, 225 collegiate events were held, raising over $7.5 million, said Hiliary Humble, director of special events for the American Cancer Society in Endicott, N.Y.

“This event has the potential to be huge and put Binghamton University on the map for Relay success,” she said. “We hope to get involvement from all clubs, organizations, athletic teams, students, faculty and staff.” To register a team for the Apr. 1 relay, Visit
