Students to create blankets for babies

Binghamton University students will be making fleece blankets for distribution to needy babies and toddlers in the community.

The Chabad House Jewish Student Center, Sigma Delta Tau and Phi Sigma Sigma are sponsoring Blankets for Babies, a social action project, from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 20, in UU-East Lounge.

“We feel that it is extremely important for our students to think about the wider community and especially its more needy segments,” said Rivkah Slonim, Chabad House education director.

“We know the children and their parents will appreciate these blankets and I also think the students’ hearts will be warmed by the opportunity to touch someone’s life in such a simple but important way. Besides, it should be great fun.”

Anyone interested in joining the Blankets for Babies program is urged to attend.

“The genius of this project is that the blankets are sew-free, requiring no special skills to put together,” Slonim said. “Anyone who is willing to give even a short amount of time can help out in this important project.”
