Engineers lend helping hands

Senior Jake McGraw, a computer science major, carries a box containing some of the new equipment.
About 20 engineering students put in a new playground at Woodburn Court 2 Apartments on Susquehanna Street in Binghamton last week. The students are part of Binghamton University’s new chapter of Engineers Without Borders. The group’s long-term goal is to go overseas to help with life-sustaining projects, bringing water systems to villages in places such as Africa, South America and Asia.

The funding for this project came from the Department of Housing and Urban Development, but for future projects the group will have to organize fundraisers and seek donations from businesses. Binghamton University has the first chapter of Engineers Without Borders in the State University of New York system.
