INSIDE BINGHAMTON UNIVERSITY
It’s time to request SOOT survey forms
To request SOOT online using Blackboard, go to: http://blackboard.binghamton.edu/. Enter your username and password. Your username is your Binghamton University e-mail address excluding the “@binghamton.edu” and your password is your normal Blackboard password. If you have never logged into Blackboard, your initial password is the first two letters of your last name and the last four digits of your Social Security number. From the list of Tools on the left side of the page, click on SOOT Surveys, then click on the courses you want surveyed and hit Request Surveys.
The survey will then become available for the students enrolled in your course and they will use Blackboard to respond to it during the surveying period: Term I – June 15-29; Term II – July 27-Aug. 10; for courses with an ending date different than Term I or II, 14 days before the end of class until the end of class. Others given the role of Instructor in Blackboard will also have the opportunity to request a SOOT survey.
To maximize the number of responses, give your students several reminders and tell them that the survey is anonymous and that faculty members see only aggregated results after they have submitted final course grades.
Results will become available July 13 for Term I, Aug. 24 for Term II or 14 days after the end of class. You will need to go into Blackboard to access SOOT results. If you have questions about Blackboard, call the Help Desk at 777-6420.
To request paper survey forms, go to: https://spider.adm.binghamton.edu:6128/soot/sootform.cgi. You will need your Social Security number for this secured site. If you receive a warning about the security certificate you may still proceed; it is indeed a safe site. Once you have requested your forms, print the confirmation and instruction sheet for use when administering the SOOT. Your forms will be delivered within three or four working days. This Web site will be available through Aug. 10.
It will take about six weeks for you to receive results if you choose the paper method. If you have questions about using paper SOOT forms, call the Office of Institutional Research and Planning at 777-2365.
Note: Regardless of whether you choose online or paper, if the instructor of the course you are teaching is listed as “Staff” in the BUSI system, you will not be able to request a SOOT survey. Your department will need to contact the Registrar’s Office to update the information in BUSI.
