Student on fast track to Wall Street career

Fast-track MBA student George Alisandratos has a job waiting for him at Credit Suisse after graduation.

And it’s no wonder.

Alisandratos, 22, of Bayside, Queens, has as much real estate experience as many people 10 years older.

He helped manage a couple of properties his parents owned starting in high school. As a college freshman, he got his real estate license. He worked as a broker for a few summers while earning his bachelor’s degree in economics.

And then, after graduating Phi Beta Kappa, he interned with the real estate finance and securitization department at Credit Suisse, which focuses on commercial mortgages. Alisandratos made his initial contact with Credit Suisse during last year’s New York City Employer Visits, organized by the Alumni Association and the Career Development Center.

He said he appreciates the broad view of business that he’s getting through the combined-degree program. And the School of Management’s emphasis on teamwork makes a world of sense to him.

“It’s definitely what happens out in the workforce,” he said. “It’s good to get ready for it.”
Murali Jagannathan, associate professor in the School of Management, and Kenneth Christianson Jr., a lecturer in the Department of Economics, both said Alisandratos is one of the most outstanding students they’ve had at Binghamton.

“He has all the traits of successful individuals,” Jagannathan said. “He is curious, works hard and is able to comprehend new concepts quickly. He asks intelligent questions, and gives thoughtful answers.”

Alisandratos knows his new job will bring pressure and long hours, but he’s also excited about the freedom of life in the city.

“Now,” he said, “it’s my chance to make something of myself.”
