Binghamton University Downtown Center open house and cornerstone ceremony

Binghamton University will hold a cornerstone ceremony and community open house on Friday, October 5, at the new University Downtown Center located on Washington Street.

A time capsule of University artifacts will be placed in the cornerstone of the building at 4:30 p.m.  At 5:30 p.m. a community open house will be held and the public is invited to tour the new state-of-the-art facility.

The open house is scheduled to coincide with the University’s Homecoming Weekend and the City of Binghamton’s First Friday events, giving alumni a chance to enjoy a growing arts community, including many alumni-owned galleries.

The Downtown Center is home to Binghamton University’s College of Community and Public Affairs (CCPA) and puts faculty, staff and students affiliated with its programs in human development, public administration and social work close to the agencies and organizations with which they collaborate.

The 74,400 square feet building features 11 new state of the art classrooms, conference areas, a combined library and computer pod, CCPA and Broome Community College offices, a coffee kiosk and a student lounge.
