Binghamton University conducts annual disaster drill

BINGHAMTON, NY -- The annual disaster drill coordinated by Binghamton University’s Decker School of Nursing students, faculty and staff will begin at 9 a.m. Thursday, Apr. 28, in the University Events Center.

Over 300 people are expected to participate in the drill, which will incorporate a mock scenario of flooding at the Susquehanna Nursing Care and Rehabilitation Center.  The injured residents, played by students and residents of the facility, will require transportation to a makeshift field facility – the Events Center - as the major hospitals have been overwhelmed with injured cases.

Participating organizations include the American Red Cross, Vestal EMS, Harpur’s Ferry EMS, Broome County Emergency Medical Services, Binghamton University Police, Susquehanna Nursing Care and Rehabilitation Center, Broome County Health Department, Broome County Medical Reserve Corp, UHS Triage Nurse Team, as well as faculty and students from the Decker School of Nursing.

Participants will utilize the Incident Command System (ICS) as an education tool.  ICS is a standardized, all hazard incident management system used throughout the United States.

Nurses and members of the community are invited to participate or attend.
