SUNY BEST presents overview of the Governor's regional economic development initiatives
BINGHAMTON, NY -- The SUNY Business and Education Cooperative of the Southern Tier (SUNY BEST) will host Kevin McLaughlin, who will present an overview of the Governor’s regional economic development initiatives and an update on the plans and activities of the Southern Tier Regional Economic Development Council. The presentation will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sep. 1, at the University Downtown Center, 67 Washington Street, Binghamton. This discussion is free and open to the public.
McLaughlin, the Southern Tier regional director of Empire State Development (ESD), will address issues that are of interest to a wide audience. He will solicit input on a variety of topics being addressed by the Regional Council as it prepares its 5-year Strategic Plan. These topics include business development and entrepreneurship, technology transfer and development, infrastructure, energy, and downtown revitalization and community development, agriculture, and tourism.
SUNY BEST is a volunteer group comprised of senior staff members from key economic and educational institutions in the Southern Tier. The group works to forge strong alliances, strengthen industry specific needs and provide information and outreach for business. SUNY BEST also seeks to explore and support the business community workforce needs for traditional and emerging industry clusters such as nanotechnology, biotechnology, energy, photonics, energy conservation and renewal.
