BINGHAMTON, NY – The Eating Awareness Committee and Sodexo, present “Someday Melissa: The Story of an Eating Disorder, Loss, and Hope,” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Mar. 8 in the University Union Mandela Room at Binghamton University.

The presentation, which is free and open to the public, will include a screening of the documentary “Someday Melissa,” followed by a Skype discussion with Judy Arvin and Danna Markson.  On May 6, 2009, Judy Arvin’s 19 year-old daughter Melissa lost her life to an eating disorder. It was a five-year battle that wreaked havoc on Melissa’s self-esteem, academic success, friendships and family.

“Someday Melissa” is a documentary inspired by Melissa’s journal writings and designed to raise awareness of this insidious disease. Arvin’s desire is to provide a beacon of hope to those suffering with their own disorder, for parents who have a child struggling with an eating disorder, or to those who would simply like to have a greater understanding. She hopes that “Someday Melissa” helps people recognize the warning signs and the dangers, and inspires action.
