       Filmmaker Aishah S. Simmons will visit Binghamton University for a screening of No!, a critically acclaimed documentary which examines issues of sexual violence in the context of African American culture.  The screening, which is free and open to the public, will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 5, in the Anderson Center Chamber Hall on the University campus. 

       Simmons will also facilitate a discussion titled, “Images of Women in the Media: What Our Girls (And Boys) are Learning, at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 6, in room 133 of the University Union.  This discussion will focus on images of women of color in the media and what young girls, and boys, learn from these images.

       Simmons, who defines herself as an African-American feminist lesbian, is an award-winning independent documentary filmmaker, television and radio producer, published writer, international lecturer, and activist.  In 1992, she founded AfroLez® Productions, an AfroLez®femcentric multimedia arts company committed to using the moving image as well as the written and spoken word to address issues which have a negative impact on marginalized and disenfranchised people.
