Binghamton University to host third annual Invitational Iron Pour

Binghamton University will host the third annual Invitational Iron Pour, starting at 1 p.m. Friday, April 11, in sculpture studios located in room 154 of the Fine Arts Building on the University campus.  This event is free and open to the public.

Sculpture students and faculty from eight other college programs will visit and more than 100 molds will be poured, with three furnaces firing. The process involves pouring red-hot iron, raised to temperatures of more than 2,700 degrees, into special molds to create sculptures.

The day will culminate with an “Ice Pyrotechnic Performance Pour Piece” by Ken Payne.

This event is sponsored by the Rosefsky Memorial Visiting Artist Endowment, The Dean of Harpur College Dean’s Office, the University Provost’s Office, Sodexo Campus Services, Ben Weitsman and Sons, Tonawanda Coke Company, Harbison-Walker Refractories Company, and Pacemaker Steel Company.
